Política y procedimientos

BUENA SITUACIÓN ACADÉMICA

The status of “good academic standing” indicates that a student has been duly enrolled at MIB University and is eligible to participate in all activities of the University. A student is presumed to be in good standing unless the student engages in established misconduct. An undergraduate degree-seeking student or a graduate degree- seeking student, who is on probation or on suspension is not in good academic standing. A student must be in good academic standing in order to graduate. Undergraduate students who possess a total institutional GPA of 2.0 or above are considered to be in Good Academic Standing.

ADVERTENCIA

This status indicates that a student has undergone the judicial process due to the seriousness of their conduct and has been cautioned that further behavior of the same or similar nature may result in additional disciplinary action by MIB University. A written notice is issued to the student indicating that they are violating or have violated University regulations.

LIBERTAD ACADÉMICA CONDICIONAL

An undergraduate or graduate student who fails to maintain good academic standing and has less than a 2.0 GPA (for bachelor’s degree) and 3.0 GPA (for master’s degree) will be placed on academic probation and referred to an academic advisor. Academic probation is used to formally notify students that they may not be achieving satisfactory academic progress. Through academic probation, the institution identifies unsatisfactory academic performance, offers academic support and counseling and gives students additional chances to meet academic expectations.

DESPIDO Y SUSPENSIÓN

If the total institutional GPA falls below 2.0 for undergraduate programs or 3.0 for graduate programs at the end of a semester in which a student is on academic probation, the student will be eligible for academic dismissal. A student on academic dismissal or suspension is not eligible to register for or attend academic classes at MIB University. Students who are dismissed will not be permitted to re-enroll unless they submit a readmission application by the deadline and the University approves it. A student who is readmitted after academic dismissal will be dismissed again if their GPA falls below 2.0 for undergraduate programs or 3.0 for graduate programs.

EXPULSIÓN

This status, the most serious disciplinary action taken by MIB University, indicates the immediate, involuntary, and permanent separation of a student from MIB due to gross misconduct. The University can expel a student who violates campus policies, fail to meet academic standards, or break the institutional rules. Expulsion is a very serious step. After notice of expulsion, a student must leave campus immediately and will not be eligible to apply for readmission to MIB University. A statement of offense and decision will be placed in the student’s file in the Registration Department, and the student’s transcript will include documentation of expulsion. A student dismissed or expelled at any time shall not be entitled to any claims or refunds.

  • Disorderly Conduct: Indecent or offensive behavior during University activities.
  • False Statements: Lying or perjuring oneself to University officials.
  • Violation of Other Policies: Breaching any published MIB University policies, rules, or regulations.
DESHONESTIDAD ACADÉMICA: TRAMPAS Y PLAGIO

Cheating is considered any attempt, whether successful or not, to provide or obtain assistance and/or information through unauthorized means to fulfill academic requirements, including examinations. This encompasses activities like falsifying reports and documents. Plagiarism is defined as utilizing ideas, phrases, sentences, or larger portions of discourse from another writer or speaker without proper acknowledgment. It also includes the unauthorized copying of software and violations of copyright laws. Faculty members are authorized to take action in cases of cheating or plagiarism based on witnessed incidents or supported by written evidence. It is crucial that the faculty member directly observes the evidence and does not act solely on the report of another party. In the event that a faculty member uncovers a suspected case of cheating or plagiarism, they should take appropriate measures to confront the student with the evidence within five (5) working days. If the student satisfactorily explains the incident to the faculty member’s satisfaction, no further action is deemed necessary. However, if the student denies cheating and the faculty member maintains belief in the occurrence, the faculty member will submit an Academic Dishonesty Form to the Academic Director and to the Executive Campus Director. Subsequently, the Executive Campus Director will conduct a hearing during which the faculty member and the Academic Director will present evidence against the student. The Executive-Campus Director will determine whether the evidence indicates that cheating/plagiarism has taken place. If the student admits guilt or is found guilty of cheating or plagiarism, the following records will be maintained:

  • The faculty member will submit an Academic Dishonesty Form to the Academic Director and to the Executive Campus Director.
  • The Executive Campus Director will notify the student in writing that these forms have been sent.
  • Records of the incident will be retained in the office of the Executive Campus Director.
  • If the records indicate that the student has committed two offenses, both incidents become a part of the student’s permanent academic record. The faculty member will decide how the student will be graded for the course in which cheating or plagiarism occurred. This may involve requiring the student to resubmit the assignment or take a new examination, receiving a failing grade on the assignment or examination, or even receiving a failing grade for the entire course. For a second or subsequent offense, the student is subject to suspension or dismissal from MIB University. The student retains the right to appeal any of the above decisions in writing to the Executive Campus Director within thirty (30) working days.
POLÍTICA DE RECLAMACIONES

MIB University defines a grievance as a dissatisfaction occurring when a student believes that any decision, act, or condition affecting them is illegal, unjust, or causes unnecessary hardship. The complaint must be submitted in writing on the official complaint form, signed by the aggrieved student, and sent to the Executive Campus Director. Additionally, the complaint must include the student’s contact information (phone number, email, and address). Submission of written complaints via email will only be accepted if the complaint form is signed and attached to the email, including the student’s contact information. Oral, anonymous, or third-party complaints submitted on behalf of another individual will not be considered formal complaints and will not be processed following these procedures. These complaint procedures exclusively apply to currently enrolled students. The complaint should contain details of the alleged act or condition and how it affects the student. The Executive Campus Director will discuss the complaint with the director of the office from which the complaint arose. After a decision regarding the complaint has been taken, the student will receive a written response in writing from the Executive Campus Director within 20 business days of receiving the complaint. The student may be contacted for additional information and/or clarification if necessary. If the issue remains unresolved or if the student is dissatisfied with the response received, the student may appeal to the University’s

The purpose of this policy is to provide a mechanism for the review of student grade appeals and complaints within the framework of existing department and programs. Student complaints concerning a grade should first be directed to the faculty member involved. The student must attempt to discuss any academic issue regarding grades with the faculty member involved within 15 workdays after the issue has occurred or within the first 15 workdays following the assignment of the grade. If the student and the faculty member are unable to resolve the complaint, the student may take the complaint to the academic director in writing. The written notification to the academic director should clearly state what the student believes are the faculty member’s unreasonable and/or unfair practices or procedures and include any available documentation. The academic director will analyze the case and may attempt to resolve the complaint by meeting with the student and faculty member separately to mediate the issue. If no satisfactory resolution is reached, the formal complaint and a written report about the student complaint will be filled out and sent to the Executive Campus Director. The Executive Campus Director will analyze the report and review the case, focusing on whether the grade assigned by the instructor aligns with the course grading policy as outlined in the course syllabus and/or discussed with the students in class. Additionally, consideration will be given to whether the grade calculation follows the same criteria applied to other students in the same course. Based on the evidence, the Executive Campus Director will generate a final written report accessible to both the student and the instructor with a copy sent to the Academic Director. It is important to note that the professor retains ultimate responsibility for grade assignment. After the conclusion of the grade appeal and the issuance of the final written report, the student may seek advice and assistance from the Executive Campus Director or appeal the final decision in writing to the University President. Should a student wish to file a complaint at the state level, they must contact the Florida Department of Education Commission for Independent Education at 325 W. Gaines St., Suite 1414, Tallahassee, FL 32399-0400, or email cieinfo@fldoe.org, or fax 850.245.3238
